The Sony WF-1000XM4 is rumored to be a sequel to some of the best Sony WF-1000XM3 wireless headphones . And as more information emerges, the hype around these potentially best-in- ear headphones is growing.

More recently, we saw leaked images of a Sony WF-1000XM4 prototype from the Walkman blog , which suggests the headphones will arrive on June 9th.

Sony’s upcoming TWS earbuds are FCC certified under number YY2948. Therefore, if the Code number coincides with the Sony WF-1000XM4, then you should expect a new product in the near future on the market.

The headphone packaging photos that were leaked on Reddit gave us a glimpse of the design and some of the features of the Sony WF-1000XM4, including active noise cancellation and Hi-Res Audio support.

Sony WF-1000XM4 release date

There is no exact release date for the Sony WF-1000X4 right now, but the launch is believed to be imminent. Moreover, a year and a half has passed since the release of the WF-1000XM3. In fact, the earbuds could be released in June.

The FCC filing originally listed September 27 as the time that “short-term confidentiality” ends. This is a typical indicator of when a company is officially unveiling a product, but that date has now been pushed back to June 9th.

It makes sense that Sony has agreed to a 2021 release if the company wants to compete with Apple. The tech giant is rumored to launch Apple AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2 this year.

Again, there is no word yet on how much the Sony WF-1000XM4 will cost, but we’d be surprised if the company strayed too far from the price of its predecessors.

Sony WF-1000XM3 went on sale with a price of $ 230 / 17,250 rubles.

Sony is expected to target a similar cost to the WF-1000XM4.

The latest design leaks for the Sony WF-1000XM4 have revealed new earbuds as well as a charging case from all directions. The leaks that come from The Walkman Blog and mirai160525 can be considered reliable as the design shown is exactly the same as the previous information on the WF-1000XM4.

Details on the specifications and features of the WF-1000XM4 are scarce, so let’s start with the facts. The WF-1000XM4 will likely retain everything that’s available in the Sony Headphones Connect app, including 360 Reality Audio support, an equalizer with numerous presets, control customization and parameter selections to enhance distinctive features such as adaptive audio control.

In terms of improvements, the WF-1000XM4 is expected to receive an improved microphone system for improved call quality, better touch controls, strong active noise cancellation and detailed soundstage control.

Assuming the FCC filing specifically concerns the WF-1000XM4, the new earbuds will connect via Bluetooth 5.2 – an improved version of Bluetooth 5.0 used by the WF-1000XM3. This makes it easy to connect your headphones to multiple devices at the same time while seamlessly switching between them.

The filing also mentions the new MediaTek MT2822S SoC. It is rumored to be the renamed Airoha AB1568 chip, which will leave the WF-1000XM4 without support for the high-quality aptX Bluetooth codec, but add power management improvements to the WF-1000XM3 SoC. This can extend the battery life.

Speak-to-Chat is a feature that uses microphones and advanced signal processing to recognize your voice and pause music during a call. Sound technologies such as DSEE Extreme and Edge-AI, which work to enhance the quality of compressed music and analyze music in real time, can also be helpful. Let’s not forget about Multipoint technology, with which you can connect to two devices at the same time and switch between them.

Sony WF-1000XM4 Battery and Charging Case

The new model can keep the same battery performance as the WF-1000XM3: 6 hours of ANC playtime with 18 hours available with the charging case.

This fact might disappoint anyone hoping Sony will increase battery life. However, the new case will charge faster than the XM3: the charging output of the WF-1000XM4 case is listed as 5V = 140mA, which is higher than the WF-1000XM3, 5V = 120mA.
